I was born during the bombardments of Antwerp in 1944 during WW2. My father fled with his family to UK during WW1. I have been singing in choirs from my earliest childhood in Belgium until now, across all countries where I happened to work as a tropical agronomist. After retirement in 2009 I joined the Music Academy in Jette (Brussels) where I attended the singing classes under Mrs. Nel Vanhee. Together with my dedicated pianist Hélène Fresnay, and the small but enthousiastic academy choir, we presented an overview of English songs around the theme « Kings, love, wars and Brexit »during a student concert in 2016.
I realized that music and lyrics can reinforce themselves. In turn, both of them can reinforce the underst anding of historical events, among which the Brexit-Brexin saga I wanted to focus on. I contend that UK, owing to its characteristics and qualities, is not just one country among 28 EU members but deserves proper recognition for determining twice the fate of Europe and its civilisation. I cannot imagine Europe being incompatible with the present UK and its legacy. Hence, as true Europeans we should imagine an EU docking station which does offer a genuine hospitality to the UK.
These were reasons enough to present a you tube version of our musical support for « a soft Brexin into a soft Europe » with the help of my daughter Marie-Alice and her sons Cédric and Jolan.
